Hab: Edges of calcareous pine savannas, calcareous slopes and bottomlands, mesic hammocks, stream terraces. Dist: Se. NC south to c. peninsular FL, on the Coastal Plain; allegedly disjunct in nc. TN (Chester et al. 1993)

Other Comments: The affinities of this species are questionable; it is usually placed in section Paniceae, but may actually belong to Laxiflorae.
