Hab: Mountaintop ponds (with Dulichium arundinaceum, Vaccinium macrocarpon, Juncus canadensis), mafic fens at high elevation, northwards in sedge meadows and shores. Dist: NL (Newfoundland) west to ND, south to NJ, s. PA, OH, IN, IA, and NE; disjunct in w. VA (Augusta County) and nw. NC (Bluff Mountain, Ashe County, NC). First reported for VA by Wieboldt et al. (1998).
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Dragon & Barrington (2009) and Haines (2011) discuss variation in C. aquatilis. It appears that several taxa should be recognized in ne. North America, but the entities and their separation is not yet clear.
