Appalachian mountains, abundant but local in temperate and boreal peatlands further northward. Dist: NL (Newfoundland) west to NT, south to CT, c. PA, n. OH, n. IN, WI, and MN; disjunct southwards in WV (Hardy County) and NC (Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, and Watauga counties).
