Carex roanensis F.J. Hermann. Section: [26ff] Section 23b Hymenochlaenae. Roan Mountain Sedge. Phen: May-Jun. Hab: Cove forests, moderate to high elevation oak forests, northern hardwood forests. Dist: Sw. PA, w. VA, and e. WV south through e. KY, e. TN, w. NC to se. TN and nw. GA (Smith & Waterway 2008; Smith et al. 2006). First reported for VA by Wieboldt et al. (1998).

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: See Smith & Waterway (2008), Smith et al. (2006), and Hermann (1947) for additional information; seemingly closely related to C. virescens.
