Cayaponia quinqueloba (Rafinesque) Shinners. Common name: Five-lobe-cucumber. Phenology: Jun-Nov. Habitat: Swamp forests, river banks, hammocks. Distribution: E. NC (historically), e. SC south to GA and FL Panhandle, west to e. TX, north in the interior to w. TN. The NC occurrence is based on a 19th century collection by M.A. Curtis with locality data as only "North Carolina", but in his hand; we accept this as likely accurate documentation, and map it in the Coastal Plain, near known occurrences nearby across the SC line.
