Cicuta maculata Linnaeus var. maculata. Common name: Water-hemlock. Phenology: May-Aug; Jul-Sep. Habitat: Marshes, bogs, seepages, fens, ditches, swamp forests. Distribution: NS west to AK, south to FL, CA; Mexico.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Three other varieties are more northern or western: var. victorinii (Fernald) B. Boivin of QC, var. angustifolia Hooker of western North America, and var. bolanderi.
Other Comments: All parts of the plant, especially the tubers, are dangerously poisonous.
