Cirsium ochrocentrum A. Gray. Common name: Yellow-spine Thistle. Phenology: Jul-Aug (-Sep). Habitat: Dry, gravelly or sandy soils of prairies, pastures, open disturbed areas. Distribution: SD, WY, NV, and OR south to ec. TX, w. TX, NM, AZ, and n. Mexico (BCN, CHH, COA, DGO, SON, ZAC).
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: With the elevation of the non-typic variety of Cirsium ochrocentrum to species rank (Nesom 2021i), our taxon returns to specific rank.
