Crocanthemum rosmarinifolium (Pursh) Janchen. Common name: Rosemary Sunrose. Phenology: May-Jun; Jul-Oct. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, sandy roadsides, fields. Distribution: S. NC south to Panhandle FL, west to c. TX; West Indies (Dominican Republic).

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Synonymy : = Ar, Fl4, FNA6, K4, POWO, S; = Helianthemum rosmarinifolium Pursh — NcTx, NS, RAB, S13, Tx, WH3, Daoud & Wilbur (1965), Wilbur & Daoud (1964). Basionym: Helianthemum rosmarinifolium Pursh 1813

Intro: Erect perennial of sandy roadsides and fields.

Stems: Stems branched, covered with dense, short hairs that impart a pale gray-green cast.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, short-petiolate, lance-shaped to broadly linear (almost needle-like), 5/8-1 5/8 in. long, hairy above and woolly beneath.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers solitary or in small clusters, both terminal and axillary, pale yellow, about 3/4 in. wide, consisting of 5 triangular petals with wavy edges and 6 hairy sepals (2 different sizes). Many plants also (or only) produce later, self-pollinating flowers that lack petals.

Fruits: Fruit a smooth capsule.
