Desmodium ciliare (Muhlenberg ex Willdenow) A.P. de Candolle. Phenology: Jun-Oct; Aug-Nov. Habitat: Fields, woodland borders, disturbed areas. Distribution: MA west to IN, MO, and se. KS, south to s. FL and TX; also in Cuba.

Intro: Erect perennial of agricultural fields, dry woodland borders and disturbed, open areas.

Stems: Stems 1-several from a crown, branched in inflorescence, densely rough-hairy.

Leaves: Leaves alternate; on petioles with short, narrow stipules; divided into 3 densely furry, oval to elliptic leaflets, each to 1 1/4 in. long.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers long-stalked and loosely arranged on spreading branches, pinkish-purple, less than 1/4 in. long, bilaterally symmetric and with typical pea-flower shape, the erect "banner" petal bearing 2 green or yellow patches at the base.

Fruits: Fruit a hairy, flattened pod with constrictions between 1-3 seeds.
