Desmodium cuspidatum (Muhlenberg ex Willdenow) A.P. de Candolle ex Loudon. Common name: Large-bracted Tick-trefoil. Phenology: Jun-Aug; Aug-Oct. Habitat: Fields, woodlands, woodland borders, disturbed areas. Distribution: VT and MA west to MN, south to FL Panhandle and e. TX.

Stems: Stems 1-several from a crown, unbranched, smooth to slightly hairy.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, on petioles with lance-shaped stipules at the base, divided into 3 oval leaflets that are pointed at the tip, bright green above and paler beneath and mostly smooth.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in sparse terminal racemes, pink, 1/4-1/2 in. long, bilaterally symmetric and with typical pea-flower shape.

Fruits: Fruit a hairy, flattened pod with constrictions between 3-7 seeds and covered with hooked hairs that stick to clothing and fur.
