not marked as a favorite taxon Drosera brevifolia Pursh. Common name: Dwarf Sundew. Phenology: Feb-May (-Jun). Habitat: Pine savannas, other wet sandy sites, rarely in seepage over rock outcrops. Distribution: The species ranges from e. MD (Howard 2019) and se. VA south to s. FL and west to AR, OK, and TX; disjunct in sc. TN; disjunct in w. SC in the uppermost Piedmont (Blue Ridge Escarpment region); Cuba; s. Mexico (CHO, OAX); Central America; South America.

Intro: Low-growing, carnivorous annual or perennial of pine savannas and other wet sandy sites, and rarely in seepage over rock outcrops.

Stems: Stems are slender, smooth flowering scapes covered with gland-tipped hairs that emerge from a small basal rosette.

Leaves: Leaves basal (rosette about 1 in. wide), on short dilated petioles, oblong to spoon-shaped, greenish to reddish and densely covered with hairs exuding a clear, sticky liquid that attracts and traps insects.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers several in small cluster at top of scape, 1 opening at a time, white to rose-pink, consisting of 5 spreading, nearly round petals.
