*Furcraea foetida (Linnaeus) Haworth. Common name: Mauritius-hemp. Phenology: Sep-Feb. Habitat: Rockland hammocks, beach dunes, and other dry, disturbed areas near old homesites, establishing from horticultural use. Distribution: Native of tropical America; widely introduced throughout the tropics worldwide, rarely escaped in s. peninsular FL. This species is cultivated in subtropical and tropical regions as a fiber and textile product, and as an ornamental plant.
