Stems: Stems wiry, often branched from base or in inflorescence, smooth with some hairiness at nodes.
Leaves: Leaves in whorls of 4, sessile to short-petiolate, elliptic to oval-lance-shaped, 1-3 in. long, with 3-5 prominent veins, margins and veins minutely hairy.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers sparse in wide-branching terminal cluster, yellowish turning purple-maroon, 1/8 in. wide, with 4 spreading, pointed corolla lobes.
Fruits: Fruit a green-turning-black seed capsule composed of 2 round lobes covered with curved bristles and containing 1 seed per lobe.
