Dist: A narrow Southern Appalachian endemic: sw. NC (southwest of the Asheville Basin), nw. SC, ne. GA, and se. TN; disjunct at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, Bell County, KY.

Other Comments: On mountain slopes and summits in that area it is often the dominant shrub, forming large clonal patches.
