Taxonomy Comments: It appears that H. leucophyllus Shiller should be recognized as a species. It is endemic to coastal prairies and similar habitats from s. LA to se. TX (and possibly in s. MS); it needs additional evaluation.

Synonymy : = Tx, Shiller (1960); < Hibiscus lasiocarpos Cav. — GW2; < Hibiscus moscheutos L. ssp. lasiocarpos (Cav.) O.J.Blanch. — FNA6, K4, NS, POWO. Basionym: Hibiscus leucophyllus Shiller 1960
