Distribution: New England and maritime Canada west to Minnesota and Saskatchewan, south to n. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, n. Indiana, n. Illinois.

Taxonomy Comments: As explained by Haines (2025b), the "Northern Group" of Terrell (1988) cannot be var. longifolia because of Terrell's (1988) selection of a neotype for Houstonia longifolia that represents his "Appalachian Group".
