Hypericum bartramium P. Miller. Common name: American Great St. John's-wort. Phenology: Jun-Aug. Habitat: Swamps, bottomlands, wet meadows. Distribution: QC west to MN, south to s. PA (Rhoads & Klein 1993; Rhoads & Block 2007), MD (Robson 2000; but excluded based on no specimen), and WV (Harmon, Ford-Werntz, & Grafton 2006).

Taxonomy Comments: H. ascyron is east Asian; our eastern North American relative is variously treated as distinct at species rank (as done here), at subspecies rank, or merged with no recognition (see synonymy). H. bartramium P. Miller (1768) has priority at species rank over H. pyramidatum W. Aiton (1789).
