*Hypochaeris chillensis (Kunth) Britton. Section: Phanoderis. Series: Microcephala. Common name: Brazilian Cat's-ear. Phenology: Late Apr-Jul. Habitat: Roadsides, fields, other disturbed places. Distribution: Native of South America. More common in the NC Coastal Plain than shown in RAB (common in Duplin, Sampson, and Wayne cos.) (A.J. Bullard, pers. comm., 2003).

ID notes: Hypochaeris chillensis can be recognized by its branched and leafy stems, capitula arranged in lax corymbiform capitulescences, corollas shorter than or equal to the involucres, with tubes much longer than ligules, and dark-colored, long-beaked cypselae (Mailhos, Bonifacino, & Marchesi 2023).
