Ipomoea coccinea Linnaeus. Common name: Scarlet Creeper, Red Morning-glory. Phenology: Aug-Dec. Habitat: Fields, roadsides, thickets, streambanks. Distribution: Unquestionably native of the se. United States, though the details of the pre-Columbian distribution are uncertain. Wood et al. (2020b) stated "endemic to southeastern USA, where it grows on waste ground, roadsides, stream sides and in ditches, apparently with a preference for seasonally moist habitats."

Leaves: Leaves alternate, petiolate, heart-shaped or rarely lobed, to 4 in. long, with lower margins often weakly toothed, smooth.

Flowers: Flowers in axillary clusters, scarlet, often with a yellow throat, to 1 in. long and 1 1/2 in. wide, narrowly funnel-shaped with a long tube and flaring opening, with 5 protruding stamens.
