Taxonomy Comments: The natural hexaploid hybrid Krigia ×shinnersiana K.L. Chambers [K. biflora × montana] is documented from the Craggy Mountains, Buncombe County, NC (Chambers 2004; Kim & Turner 1992).

Intro: Erect perennial of cliffs and rock outcrops at medium to high elevations.
Stems: Stems branching near base, mostly leafless, oozing milky sap when broken.
Leaves: Leaves mostly basal, linear to lance-shaped, 1 1/2-4 in. long, wider ones sometimes coarsely toothed or lobed near the base.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Composite flowers (heads) solitary at tips of branches, about 1 in. wide, consisting of multiple orange-yellow ray florets with squared-off, 5-toothed tips. Narrow, green bracts surround the bell-shaped base of each head.
Fruits: Fruit a fluffy cluster of tufted achenes.
