*Lilium philippinense Baker. Philippine Lily. Phen: Jul-Aug. Hab: Roadsides, disturbed areas, escaped from cultivation. Dist: Native of the Philippines. This species is introduced at various locations in the Southeast, including FL and LA (Kartesz 1999), and has been documented from Richmond Co. NC (B.A. Sorrie, pers. comm.).
Origin/Endemic status: E. and se. Asia
Taxonomy Comments: In North America there has been confusion between this species, L. formosanum A. Wallace, and L. longiflorum Thunberg (see Zomlefer et al. 2018). L. longiflorum is easily distinguished (see key). There appears to be no evidence of the naturalization of L. formosanum in our area. It can be distinguished from L. philippinense by its shorter stature (to 5.5 dm tall, vs. 10-30 dm), brown pollen (vs. yellow), and smaller tepals (11-15 cm long vs. 18-25 cm).
