Lobelia georgiana McVaugh. Common name: Georgia Lobelia. Phenology: Aug-Oct. Habitat: Swamps, floodplain forests, wet places. Distribution: E. VA to Panhandle FL, inland to w. NC and e. TN.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Very close to L. elongata and inhabiting apparently the same habitats; additional taxonomic work is desirable. See McVaugh (1940) for an explanation of the need to replace the name L. glandulifera with L. georgiana.

Flowers: Flowers in a narrow terminal spike, each on a short stalk flanked by 2 small, narrow bracts; pale blue; bilaterally symmetric and tubular; opening to 2 spreading lips, the upper lip smaller and 2-lobed, the lower one 3-lobed. There are 5 prominently glandular-toothed calyx lobes ("teeth").
Fruits: Fruit a rounded-dome-shaped capsule.
