Pyrola asarifolia Michaux. Common name: Pink Shinleaf. Phenology: Jul-Aug. Habitat: Bogs and swampy forests and woodlands. Distribution: NL west to AK, south to NY (Long Island), n. IN, ne. IA, NM, UT, and s. CA.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: There are three elements in the Pyrola asarifolia complex, which have been recognized at various ranks. We recognize three species: a widespread North American Pyrola asarifolia, the Asian Pyrola incarnata (A.P. de Candolle) Fischer ex Komarov, and the Pacific Northwest Pyrola bracteata Hooker.
