Quercus austrina Small. Subgenus: Quercus. Section: Quercus. Subsection: Stellatae. Common name: Bluff Oak. Phenology: Apr; Oct (of the same year). Habitat: River bluffs, mesic hammocks, dry hammocks, natural levees of brownwater rivers, over mafic rocks, on shell or calcareous sediments. Distribution: Essentially a Southeastern Coastal Plain endemic: e. SC south to n. FL and west to MS. Previous reports from NC are based on misidentifications of Q. lyrata, and previous reports from sw. AR are based on misidentifications of Q. durandii (R. Lance, pers.comm. 2024).
