not marked as a favorite taxon Scleria baldwinii (Torrey) Steudel. Common name: Baldwin's Nutrush. Phenology: Apr-Jul. Habitat: Wet pine or pondcypress savannas, under Pinus serotina, P. palustris, and/or Taxodium ascendens. Distribution: Se. NC south to s. FL and west to se. TX; also in w. Cuba and the Bahamas (Sorrie & LeBlond 1997).

ID notes: Scleria baldwinii is a robust nutrush, having a stem up to a meter tall, from a thick, knotty, horizontal rhizome. The spikelets are in a terminal cluster, with a long erect bract that appears as a continuation of the stem. It is similar to Scleria georgiana, but is larger in almost all respects, including the achenes (3-4 mm long vs. 2-3 mm long in that species).
