not marked as a favorite taxon Stachys eplingii J.B. Nelson. Common name: Epling's Hedge-nettle. Phenology: Jun-Aug; Aug-Sep. Habitat: Mesic forests, bogs, calcareous fens, wet meadows over calcareous or mafic substrates. Distribution: Sw. Pennsylvania and West Virginia south to e. Tennessee, w. North Carolina, w. South Carolina and n. GA (Murray, Stephens and Pickens counties).

Other Comments: This species has a scattered and sporadic range in the southern and central Appalachians; material in the Interior Highlands previously included in S. eplingii has been separated as S. iltisii J.B. Nelson (Nelson 2008). See Nelson & Fairey (1979) for a discussion of the nomenclatural change.
