Habitat: Swamp forests, pocosin edges, depression wetlands, other moist to wet habitats. Distribution: Var. americanus ranges from ne. WV, OH, s. IN, s. IL, s. MO, south to s. FL and e. TX.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
