Trillium pusillum Michaux var. pusillum . Subgenus: Delostylis. Carolina Least Trillium, Carolina Dwarf Trillium. Phen: Late Mar-May; Jun-Jul. Hab: Ecotones of calcareous savannas and swamp forests in the lower Coastal Plain. Dist: Endemic to the outer Coastal Plain of e. NC and e. SC.
ID notes: T. pusillum is somewhat reminiscent of a tiny T. grandiflorum.

Taxonomy Comments: The Trillium pusillum complex is currently undergoing study by Susan Farmer, Ed Schilling, and Aaron Floden; preliminary analyses show that the published varieties are "good" at varietal or higher rank, and that the recognition of additional taxa is warranted.
Other Comments: The T. pusillum complex has a wide but very fragmented range, involving most of the Southeastern states. Petals white to pink.
