Intro: Spring-flowering understory perennial with drooping flowers and leaves, found in cove forests and other moist, rich, forested sites.

Stems: Stems 1 or more from single root crown, smooth, branched and bearing 1-2 leaves below the branches.

Leaves: Leaves pierced by stem, elliptic to oval, drooping, smooth above and white-hairy below.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers 1-3 per stem/branch, golden-yellow, 1-2 in. long, dangling on pendant stalks, consisting of 6 slightly twisted tepals with smooth inner surfaces.

Fruits: Fruit an oval, 3-lobed capsule (triangular in cross-section).

Height: 8-24 in.
