Leaves: Leaves opposite (lower) and alternate (upper), short-petioled, oval to rounded, to 1/2 in. long, with coarsely toothed or scalloped margins and slightly hairy.

Flowers: Flowers solitary on short stalks from upper leaf axils, blue-violet but white toward the center (with darker lines), about 1/3 in. wide, bilaterally symmetric, consisting of 4 tiny petals, 1 of which is slightly narrower. 2 stamens and 1 style protrude from a green center.
Fruits: Fruit a flattened, slightly heart-shaped capsule.
