ID notes: "Zanthoxylum flavum is distinctive in its densely pubescent, velutinous apical bud, terminal clustered panicles, relatively large flowers, and gynoecium with (1)2 carpels (Reynel 2017).
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: We here treat Z. flavum narrowly as a species equivalent in concept to Z. flavum ssp. flavum of Reynel (2017) and Skean (2024). Reynel (2017) recognized 3 additional subspecies (sometimes previously accorded species rank) in the West Indies and se. Mexico and Honduras.
