Podophyllum Linnaeus. Common name: May-apple.
A monotypic genus, a perennial, rhizomatous herb, of e. North America. Ye et al. (2022) determined that Podophyllum is sister to the e. Asian endemic genus Dysosma (with which it is sometimes combined, as Podophyllum sensu lato), the clade of Podophyllum and Dysosma sister to Diphylleia.
The aspect of a pair of orbicular leaves is shared with Diphylleia (Berberidaceae) and Hydrastis (Hydrastidaceae, sometimes included in Ranunculaceae).
