Festuca Linnaeus. Common name: Fescue.
A genus of about 530 species, nearly cosmopolitan in temperate regions. Likely, given the complex phylogenetic relationships between several Vulpia clades and the “narrow-leaved Festuca clade” (= Festuca s.s.) it is best to include Vulpia in Festuca, even if Festuca is treated narrowly to consist only of the “narrow-leaved clade”.
Subfamily: Pooideae. Tribe: Poeae (CHLOROPLAST GROUP 2 Poeae type). Subtribe: Loliinae. supertribe: Poodae. clade: "BOP".References: Aiken & Darbyshire (1990); Darbyshire (1993); Darbyshire & Pavlick (2007) In Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2007a); Lonard (2007) In Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2007a); Soreng & Terrell (1998); Tucker (1996); Voss & Reznicek (2012).
