*Emex Necker ex Campderá. Subfamily: Polygonoideae. Tribe: Rumiceae. Common name: Emex, Devil’s-thorn, Cape Spinach.

A genus of 2 species, herbs, of Mediterranean Europe and s. Africa. Schuster et al. (2015) advocate merging Emex into Rumex, showing it as sister to Rumex subgenus Acetosa; an alternative course (followed here) is to recognize Acetosa and Emex at generic rank.
