Manfreda maculosa (Hooker) Rose. Common name: Texas Tube-rose, Spice-lily, Amole Plant, Huaco. Phenology: Apr-Jul. Habitat: Open areas in shrublands and mesquital. Distribution: S. TX south to ne. Mexico (COA, NLE, TAM).

Other Comments: Chopped rhizomes of Manfreda maculosa have been used as a source of soap and shampoo in Texas. When not flowering, this species can be recognized by its round dark spots on the linear or linear-lanceolate leaves and small sparse cartilaginous teeth on the margins. It is also the most common and widespread species in s. TX.
