Manfreda virginica (Linnaeus) Salisbury ex Rose ssp. lata (Shinners) O'Kennon, Diggs, & B. Lipscomb. Common name: Broadleaf False-aloe, Blackland False-aloe. Phenology: Jun-Jul. Habitat: Mostly in clay Vertisols of blackland prairie sites (Carr 2016). Distribution: S. OK south to ne. TX; "endemic to the Cross Timbers and Southern Tallgrass Prairie Ecoregion of North Texas and adjacent Oklahoma" (Carr 2016).

Taxonomy Comments: While there is overlap in most of the characters distinguishing this subspecies from ssp. virginica, the characters in the key are consistent and appear to be a geographically distinct entity; subspecific status appears most appropriate (Diggs et al. 2006).
