Froelichia floridana (Nuttall) Moquin-Tandon var. pallescens Moquin-Tandon. Common name: Florida Cottonweed. Phenology: Jun-Oct. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, sandy fields, sandy roadsides. Distribution: S. GA to s. peninsular FL.
ID notes: This variety apparently has linear leaves (leaves 8× longer than wide), but has received limited taxonomic validation.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: MacCauley (2003) and MacCauley & Ballard (2007) discuss this taxon and its imperfect apparent separation from F. floridana. It may represent merely a more linear-leaved form of F. floridana var. floridana, but needs further study. It is recognized provisionally here pending additional research.
