Quercus marilandica Münchhausen var. ashei Sudworth. Common name: Western Blackjack Oak. Phenology: Apr-May; Sep-Nov (of the second year). Habitat: Xeric ridgetops, glades, dry prairies and cross-timber woodlands westward. Distribution: S. MO (?) and s. KS south to c. AR, e. TX, and sc. TX, especially on the Edwards Plateau (Hunt 1990).

Taxonomy Comments: Var. ashei Sudworth [= Q. neoashei Bush] is worthy of recognition at the varietal level at least (Hunt 1990).
