ID notes: Malpighia flowers are recognized by their 5 clawed petals, the bases (proximal) thin and tapered dramatically from the distal portions. The (posterior) flag petal often differs somewhat from the other 4 petals in size or shape. The sepals are often reduced in size and (typically) bear two fleshy glands.
