A family of 4 genera and 6 species, perennial herbs, of temperate e. and se. Asia (Saururus, Gymnotheca, Houttuynia), w. North America (Anemopsis), and e. North America (Saururus). One other member of the family occurs in North America: Anemopsis californica Hooker & Arnott, primarily of the sw. United States.
