Platanus Linnaeus. Common name: Plane-tree, Sycamore.
A genus of about 7 species (and several additional infrataxa), trees, of North America south to Central America and w. Asia to se. Asia.
ID notes: The exposed white inner bark on the middle and upper trunks make Platanus occidentalis recognizable at long distances, especially in winter.
