Agave weberi F. Cels ex J. Poisson. Common name: Small’s Agave, Wild Century-plant. Habitat: Sandy scrub (in s. TX) and shell middens and coastal thickets (in peninsular FL); apparently introduced from Mexico in both areas. Distribution: Native to Mexico; introduced in s. TX and peninsular FL.
Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics
Taxonomy Comments: Franck (2012) argued that A. neglecta is not separable from A. weberi. A. neglecta has been considered to be an endangered FL peninsular endemic
Other Comments: This species is frequently cultivated in s. TX and Mexico for its ornamental value, pulque, and fiber. It can cause contact dermatitis due to calcium oxalate crystals in the leaves (Franck 2012).
