Ambrosia psilostachya A.P. de Candolle. Common name: Perennial Ragweed. Phenology: Jul-Nov. Habitat: Calcareous prairies (westwards); in loamy sandy soil of flats and slight depressions in periodically burned longleaf pine uplands; also in disturbed areas. Distribution: Michigan west to Montana, south to Louisiana and New Mexico; also scattered along eastern seaboard states (Maine, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia), where perhaps some of the distribution is adventive. In Virginia, apparently first collected in 2000.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: The native plants of loamy longleaf pine sandhills may be distinct; the name A. rugelii likely applies.
