Asclepias connivens Baldwin. Largeflower Milkweed. Phen: May-Aug (-Sep); Jul-Sep (-Nov). Hab: Wet pine flatwoods, seepage bogs. Dist: Se. SC (McMillan et al. 2002) south to s. FL, west to w. FL Panhandle (Santa Rosa County) and s. AL.

Intro: Erect, often leaning perennial of wet pine flatwoods.

Stems: Stems stout, unbranched, hairy; leaks milky sap when bruised.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, mostly sessile, oblong to narrowly lance-shaped, up to 2 3/4 in. long, somewhat white-waxy and slightly hairy.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in small terminal and upper axillary umbels, greenish-white, about 3/4 in. long and appearing more rounded than flowers of other milkweeds, with 5 strongly reflexed corolla lobes (greenish) and 5 "hoods" (greenish-white) that arch over the central structure of fused anthers and style.

Fruits: Fruit a follicle containing tufted seeds.
