Batis maritima Linnaeus. Common name: Saltwort, Beachwort, Batis, Turtleweed, Vidrillos. Phenology: Jun-Aug; Oct. Habitat: Brackish or salt marshes, "Batis flats", other salt flats, mangroves. Distribution: Se. SC south to s. FL, west to TX, and in Central and South America; West Indies; HI (where apparently introduced). B. maritima is alleged (as by FNA and S) to occur as far north as NC, but the documentation is unknown; there is no twentieth century evidence to place Batis in NC.

Synonymy : = Bah, Fl4, FNA7, GW2, K4, Mex, RAB, S, S13, Tx, WH3, Rogers (1982b). Basionym: Batis maritima L. 1759
