not marked as a favorite taxon Blutaparon vermiculare (Linnaeus) Mears. Common name: Silverhead, Sampire, Saltweed. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Beaches, tidal flats, dune swales. Distribution: FL peninsula and ne. FL (St. Johns County), Gulf coast of FL Panhandle, s. LA, and TX, south to Mexico (CAM, CHP, GRO, ROO, SLP, SIN, TAM, YUC) and Central America; West Indies.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Mears (1982) recognized three varieties, one in e. Brazil, one in coastal regions of n. South America, and var. vermiculare in most of the Caribbean shores, including the West Indies and our plants of s. United States. The varieties need additional assessment.
