Carex dasycarpa Muhlenberg. Section: [26ll] Section 26 Hallerianae. Common name: Velvet Sedge. Phenology: May-Jun. Habitat: Maritime forests, hammocks, other sandy forests. Distribution: E. SC south to n. peninsular FL, west to MS. Gaddy & Rayner (1980) report this species from a number of barrier islands in Beaufort and Charleston counties, SC; it has since been found in Georgetown County, SC, as well.
