Cenchrus brownii Roemer & J.A. Schultes. Common name: Slim-bristled Sandspur. Phenology: Mar-Dec. Habitat: Disturbed areas, maritime grasslands. Distribution: S. FL (where apparently native), elsewhere in the se. United States (NC, GA, AL, where presumably introduced); West Indies; Central America, n. South America. The sole known NC specimen was collected in 1885 by Gerald McCarthy in NC "in locis navalibus et vastis".

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Synonymy : = Bah, FlGr, FNA25, K4, NS, POWO, SFla, WH3, Ward (2010b); = n/a — RAB; ? Cenchrus viridis Spreng. — HC, S, misapplied. Basionym: Cenchrus brownii Roem. & Schult. 1817 "Urbasionym:" Cenchrus inflexus Poir. 1804
