*Corchorus aestuans Linnaeus var. aestuans. Common name: Jute. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Roadsides, other disturbed ground. Distribution: Native of Asia. Reported for Thomas County, GA (Carter, Baker, & Morris 2009).
Origin/Endemic status: E. and se. Asia
Taxonomy Comments: A second variety, var. brevicaulis (Hosokawa) T.S. Liu & H.C. Lo, is endemic to Taiwan, and presumably not introduced in our region.
