Cranichis muscosa Swartz. Common name: Cypress-knee Helmet Orchid, Moss Orchid. Phenology: Jan-Feb. Habitat: Terrestrial on cypress knees and mossy sinkholes in rockland hammocks and strand swamps. Distribution: S. FL; West Indies; s. Mexico (CHP), Central America, and South America. This species had not been seen in FL for almost 100 years until being rediscovered in Collier County in January 2004.
